| Our Past |
I have been asked to give a brief history on the background and humble beginnings of the North Carolina Koi & Watergarden Society. Mark Keifer and I founded the Society in May of 2001 as we enjoyed a cold beer on my deck overlooking our "wet pets." I thought that it would be a great thing to have a club that was truly for both koi and watergarden enthusiasts. Both elements are SO beautiful but very different with independent challenges. My hope for our Society is that we provide a forum for educating and assisting other hobbyist in both elements. As you know, balance is the key in the fragile ecosystem we try to provide for our pets. I firmly believe that balance is even more essential to our Society for our fitness and survival. We will know we are on track when all people are gaining knowledge and are enthusiastic about our Society. It is up to all of us to promote this diversity in our meetings and in our educational topics.
So, one year later, we have grown to about 16 member families and are adding new members each month. It is so exciting to see the synergy of our group and the excitement of the members as we meet (second Saturday of each Month). This year we had our first koi and watergarden photo contest. We had over sixty entries! Our contest included beautiful photos of both fish and plants, and that is exciting.
In summary, welcome to the Society. Let’s enjoy the fun, fellowship and educational journey together. Call at anytime with your questions or emergencies. We are here to help each other.
