Members of NCKWS hit the road on April 24 to visit Nishikigoi of Niigata in Virginia.We arrived around 10:00am and began the task of taking in all the sights at Ray Abell's venue. We were given a tour of the property along with a group that drove up from Florida. We got to see the new greenhouse and newly renovated mud ponds, as well as, existing buildings and Ray's personal pond. Ray gave us an explanation of all the filter systems and their components and explained why certain designs were incorporated. Luckily for us, there was a recent shipment of tosai and nissai that had just come in the previous week, so we were able to get some of the first glimpses. After about 5 hours and a great lunch provided by Shirley Abell, those that were making purchases rounded up their choices, and we hit the road for the 3 hour trip back. Hopefully it provided a good learning opportunity for those that attended.
